Devora Ascott Black
Devora Ascott Black is known for her infectious leadership spirit and genuine care for the whole person; these characteristics are the hallmark of her interactions in life and business. Devora started her first insurance agency, in the early ’90s after learning the business from her father. Later, she took a hiatus from the insurance world to follow her dream of becoming an artist. She became nationally known and awarded for her artistic, marketing, and design talents by building her second company, Devora Designs Brands, owning a successful stationery store, PaperSassy Fine Stationery & Gifts, and the founder of a custom technology gift company, Got Skins, Inc. which was featured on the Today Show on NBC.
Fast forward through several years of successful business in art and marketing, Devora has come full circle. In the last few years, Devora has returned to the family business to join her sister, Heather Ascott-King, and father, Frank Ascott, to take the lead in insurance once again at ISAA Insurance & Financial Services. Devora is already being recognized as a fearless leader in the insurance industry.
Women have been the focus of Devora’s work for over 30 years; from mentoring and ministering to helping start and grow women-owned businesses. She serves on the board of The Triad Dream Center, where she works to help provide resources to low-income members of her community.
As a cancer survivor, Devora has found a new passion in advocating for African American women’s participation in clinical trials for breast cancer. She recently spoke for The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network of North Carolina to advocate for health equity in clinical trials on behalf of the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Devora also serves on the Wake Forest Patient Advisory Council and spends much of her time teaching her community about wealth and retirement. Devora resides in Winston Salem, NC with her husband of five years, Michael Black. She has one son and, with her husband, four children, and six grandchildren. She attends Agape Faith Church in Clemmons, NC.
